China: Hip-Hop Banned

In China, being a celebrity with tattoos, walking a certain way and emulating the Hip-Hop culture, has become a No-No. As per the government this sort of behavior has been classified as “tasteless, vulgar and obscene”.

It turns out that the People’s Republic of China has decided to remove and ban Hip-Hop in order to depict a cleaner, more sophisticated image to its citizens. Being that it’s a Communist State, and they are so honest and free from corruption (sarcasm), this must be their way of perpetuating the “image” of the  ruling party. This is not a joke, they have gone as far as providing some “donts” to all networks. I'm willing to bet that many of these networks are State run anyway.

Absolutely do not use actors whose heart and morality are not aligned with the party and whose morality is not noble
Absolutely do not use actors who are tasteless, vulgar and obscene
Absolutely do not use actors whose ideological level is low and have no class
Absolutely do not use actors with stains, scandals and problematic moral integrity

Just last year, there was a reality show introduced titled “The Rap of China”, which upon premiering it garnered 100 million views in four hours. It accumulated 1.3 billion views in a little over a month. It brought Hip-Hop to the mainstream and many of the contestants went on to receive record deals.Imagine that, in so little time Hip-Hop made impressive gains. Well, guess what? Sorry Chinese Hip-Hop heads, do not expect a second season, Hip-Hop is now banned!  Also Chinese rapper GAI was removed from a top reality TV show with zero explanation being given.  They are serious about this!

To me, Hip-Hop is like the breaking of the Berlin Wall, it unites so many cultures and aspirations all under the same reasoning.  No to tyranny and all who attempt to suppress the peoples free will. I know it is just  a matter of time before there's the Chinese N.W.A or a Wu-Tang Clan act having the masses giving thought to what’s really going on. With that said, to the Chinese Government, Fuck you!

Check out that snip of rapper GAI.
