Common vs Drake

MC’s have been battling since LL Cool J shut down Kool Moe Dee & Ice Cube on Break of Dawn and even before that during the “Bridge Warz“ with KRS-One & MC Shan… The difference is, back then a lot of the beef was over Hip-Hop supremacy; but can anyone please tell me what’s up with Common & Drake?!!?? It seems like ever since the Jay & Nas beef over Kelis, rappers have been battling each other over females! I mean, I love Hip-Hop feuds just as much as the next dude and I’m definitely going to stay tuned to the whole Common vs. Drizzy beef because I’m sure it’s going to be a good one, but upon further inquiry, [Click Here] Common is definitely starting s**t over the whole Serena Williams thing if you ask me. So even if he tares Drake a new asshole (which in all likelihood could very well happen), my guess is he still won’t get Serena back!!

My take on it so far? Common is definitely winning because Drake has yet to even say Common’s name; and most of his shots have all been subliminal. Take for instance the song, “Stay Schemin” (which is a pretty decent track aside from the fact that the hook gets no points for originality since Ross probably snatched it from Nas’ “Stay Schemin” which Nas in turn, snatched from the original & my favorite, “Daydreaming” by Kurtis Blow…) That said, it is painfully obvious Drake is going at Common in the opening lines of his verse, yet he never says Com’s name. Truthfully, it’ll be both interesting and awkward to see how hard they can dress up their rhymes since we all know neither of them are or have ever tried to be hardcore street rappers… Common is conscious rap & Drake is R&B rap so I’m curious to see how many guns & fighting words get exchanged when you pit books against romance. I just hope it doesn’t turn into an old school vs. new school thing, because then other rappers might get involved & s**t’ll really get ugly; Now that’s a battle royal I’d like to see!!!

One thing I will say though, is that this particular beef is like a breath of fresh air in today’s Hip-Hop climate; I’m glad somebody finally stood up for real Hip-Hop without the fear of being’ labeled a hater! That same fear is what perpetuates wackness & is directly the reason why Hip-Hop has spiraled out of control the way it has; Nobody wants to sound like a “hater” so no one is checking all these wack rappers! I can hardly wait to see what comes of all this; In the meantime, PlayasOnly presents an exclusive track from Common recorded just 2 days after Drake’s alleged dis…
