Not to speak for all men, but I’m sure most will agree with me, we’re fully aware that 85% of what’s on screen is bullshit.  This is evident as you do not see many people go out and try to be a Batman or try to drive a car in the mall for kicks, or whatever ridiculousness you find on some of these movies. Do not get me wrong, there is always the exception, there are some idiots out there that want to copy whatever they see on TV, but they’re a marginal minority.

Most movies nowadays target every demographic, with animations for kids, action movies for men, drama, so on and so on. Of course there is always the occasional romance comedy that every woman wants to head out to see, which is cool… but I’m starting to wonder, do women not understand this is a movie like any other and what’s being portrayed is pure entertainment and nothing more. Here’s is my beef, these romance comedies are setting up relationships to fail. Women really, really, really believe that there is some man out there that’s going to just be some love super hero jumping for joy at every damn request she makes. This is really fucking it up for some of us men who may want to actually enjoy a relationship. Once it seems like there’s some sort of connection, women are contemplating on how to change us around and make us, as per them – “better” or behave like some of these dudes do in these movies. Our imperfections are what make us unique, if we were perfect, the world would be all so boring. Imagine a perfect world where EVERYTHING is just right? That means we all drive the same car, wear the same clothes, have the same cellphone and undoubtedly will hold the same opinion. After all perfection is something with no defectiveness, and the reason why our world holds so many options, is because nothing out there, no matter what it is, has reached the height of excellence.

So ladies – remember, life on the other hand, is NOT a movie, dudes are not that sappy. If you’re able to connect on so many levels with a person, why would you insist he have more tricks up his sleeve than Harry Potter?!?

Back in the 90’s Scientifik dropped a classic album that was seriously slept on, with production from the RZA, Buckwild, Diamond D and many others. Scientifik was part of the Bulldogs (ED O.G’s crew) and ED O.G at the time had a crazy buzz going with his first album getting radio play as well as heavy rotation on MTV. At the time this was a huge step towards Massachusetts finally being recognized across the country and Scientifik was definitely up next, as his album was definitely a banger. I always compared it to Black Moon’s first album and that’s one of my favorites until this day, and for anybody who knows Black Moon that should make you go out and want to listen to it.

Scientifik’s music career was short lived as he died in a car accident, but his legacy obviously lives on as the most potent MC’s from Lawrence refuse to let it die and he remains a huge influence in all of the artist featured here.

Peep the track, everybody kills it! The project of recording the track along with getting the video done took a total of 2 years time before becoming a reality. Big ups on this track! It’s well deserved.

As we approach the older woman, I notice what appears to be a pretty hefty bag on the floor. The sidewalk of this particular street, which is an old cobblestone road, I must admit, is pretty damn high for what is clearly a senior citizen to be walking on and off from. The woman is one of these very old sweet great grandmother looking types that has shrunk with age, in order to be able to scold little grandchildren and just looked so innocent and charming. As we draw near, she whispers in what appears to be a foreign language (Spanish or something). I didn’t totally catch it, so I asked my friend what’s her story, as she seemed to be haggling everybody. My friend approaches her and asks her to repeat herself…

It turns out she was asking for help with getting up on the sidewalk and had nothing to do with begging for money!

Moral of the story… I felt like a real jerk, that I contemplated on disregarding this poor woman who modestly pleaded that she be assisted with being held while she makes the tall step. This really made me wonder about everybody else who didn’t take the time to stop and listen. It also made me realize what turns society has taken and how we view the elderly.  We’re so focused with things that mean little to nothing, like getting to work, or the famous “minding our own business” that we don’t even realize how such a small step on to a sidewalk could have been of such a relief for this woman.

I feel a lot better that we were able to help, but I also feel a lot worse and wonder why society is pushing towards this disconnected behavior. I hope this can change.

It has been about 10years now since he retired for the second time from sports, however Michael Jordan’s sneakers are still the top selling and most desired shoe on the planet.  In the words of Jeremy Mullman, the current Senior Editor at Olson, and Reporter at Advertising Age in Chicago.  ”In fact, Jordan is now bigger than Nike’s merged rivals, Adidas and Reebok, combined, despite a selective distribution strategy that deliberately makes the shoe hard to find.” (Advertising Age)  Saturday mornings are a sneaker collector’s dream day when it comes to Jordan collectors, people having to camp outside of malls and store fronts to receive a pair of sneakers.  Jordan is now responsible for creating what is now called, “The Sneakerhead.”

A Sneakerhead is, “a person who collects limited rare, OG, or flat out exclusive kicks.  Usually the collection consists of Jordan’s or Dunks” (Brandonezzy).  This frenzy started in the early 1990′s and really took off in 1994 when Nike released Jordan’s first Retro sneaker.  A sneakerhead really thrives on keeping his kicks “Deadstock.”  Deadstock is when a sneaker is still in the box, unlaced and unworn.  Sneakers in this condition can be found on websites like EBay or Amazon, and can easily sell for about $1,000 plus.  ”Taking note of this trend, the sneaker companies began dusting off their old styles and reissuing them, often in special colors and limited numbers.  Adidas launched its Originals line of rereleases in 2001.  Reebok also has a classics division that re-creates 80′s models like the Pump” (McLaughlin).  This phenomenon of sneaker collecting has grown stupendously since the retirement of Michael Jordan in 2003, and the world has never reached such hype without him.

Today we have Sneakerheads who collect all kinds of sneakers now from Foamposites to Air Yeezy’s, it is a fad that has heightened miraculously.  Every athlete wants to, “Be like Mike,” follow in his footsteps, and get Nike sneaker deals.  The only athlete to come close has been LeBron James, but he has yet to reach anywhere close to Jordan on the sneaker selling fame.  For LeBron James it took his 9th installment of his Nike Zoom Air called South Beaches before he became a part of the sneaker frenzy.

Michael Jordan’s first sneakers were first released in 1985 by Nike.  In the process of creating his 23 pair of sneakers he has also Made his own brand of sneakers called, “Jumpman’s.”  Not to be confused with his original Nike sneaker.  Jumpman’s are a brand Jordan manufactures himself separate from Nike.  To help sell his personal brand of Jumpman sneakers, Jordan has had the help of top athletes from different sporting backgrounds, from boxers, basketball players, football players and even baseball players.  He has become an iconic sport mogul, who all athletes want to do business with.  Michael has set the standard for buying sneakers well over the three digit barrier.  ”The amount is estimated at $206 million to $330 million in the last 25years from Nike alone not to mention his numerous endorsements resulting from the Nike endorsements”

       Jordan sneakers have been a part of Pop-culture life style since he first won the dunk contest.  I still remember seeing the sneakers inside the Spike Lee movie, “Do The Right Thing” when the kid from Boston, stepped on the Brooklyn natives #4, white and cement Jordan’s.  Or seeing them in the Michael Jackson “Bad” video, and in such movies like “Space Jam” with Bugs Bunny.  Henceforth the name of his 2001 highly anticipated #11 Space Jam sneakers, for which kids camped out for two days straight just to get.  His Retro sneakers have been released and rereleased, time and time again, making it the top selling sneaker with over 23 different styles to choose from.  They seem to sell out faster than any shoe on the market.  The majority of little kids I know personally have a pair of Jordan’s on their Christmas list, birthday wish list, or back to school list.  Younger kids today who were too young to watch Jordan play know him because of his sneaker.  Making him the all-time most memorable athlete to ever sell a sneaker, ever!
