Joey Zuzu the young spirited college kid/rapper continues to make strides with his increasing buzz in the New England area. He maintains the fly, witty, and punch line heavy style and we made it a point to catch up with him to know what else is in the works for Mr. Zuzu. Check out the interview.

Joey Zuzu: “Joey Zuzu is the newest young, fly, and flashy artist from New England! I’ma dude with old school soul with a new school demeanor, the team calls me Mr. Undeniable. I just love making classic records!”

Playasonly.com: How long have you been in the game?

Joey Zuzu: “I’ve been doing my thing for a good 6 , 7 years now and loving every minute of it.”

Playasonly.com: Were you first discovered from battling in Freestyles or by a track you wrote? If it was from a track, which track?

Joey Zuzu: “You know, I never really battled a lot. In the beginning of my career I did, but just to let the other rappers around me know that I was in town to takeover. My love is song writing though; I would have to say “Put You on My Visa” was the song that took it to another level. Yeaaa that ladies anthem! Radio friendly with a spicy flow, that’s the song that got me on the radio for the first time.”

Playasonly.com: How was the transition from battle rapping to writing music?

Joey Zuzu: “The transition was kind of easy, cause there comes a point where you kinda master the whole freestyle battling thing. That i can do in my sleep. I like a challenge, so when it comes to writing songs, melodies and flows is when you really put your skills to the test. I’m trying to make the world love me!! Even some of my freestyles had concepts and melodies…so it was an easy transition.”

Playasonly.com: You are an original and you speak your mind regardless of the current trends. How do you stay grounded and focused on being you and not a copy cat?

Joey Zuzu: “I think every artist goes through a period where you might try different things and find yourself…your niche. Then you get to a point that makes you say “This Is Me!!” regardless of what boxes people are going to put you in. My music is aggressive, honest, and clever…that’s the perfect recipe for greatness…trusts me. How can i be a copy cat if nobody can do MY music the way I do it…you know.”

Playasonly.com: What or who inspired you to start making music?

Joey Zuzu: “Ahh lol…good question. I would have to Mase was the first person to make start rapping…with DMX at a close 2nd. That Bad Boy, Mase and Puffy era made me fall in love with song making, just the way that music made you feel. I was sucker for those shiny suits and fast cars man. DMX was a big influence too though.”

Playasonly.com: Who are your top 5 favorite MC’s?

Joey Zuzu: “MY fav. Top 5 right? lol…Jay-Z, Big, Nas, Dmx, Kanye(Weezy) i always go back and forth for number 5..lol”

Playasonly.com: If you had one choice to do a collaboration, who would it be with and why?

Joey Zuzu: “Of course i would want to do a song with Jay-Z…but honestly right now? NE-YO…his music is honest…straight forward, just like mine. I’m trying to take over that radio boy.”

Playasonly.com: What shows have you done up to this point?

Joey Zuzu: “I’ve done so many types man…I’ve been subject to opening for everyone from Chris Brown, Juelz, and Young Buck. My performance is crazy man…energy all day. TripleCrown rips any stage…I’m moving in the direction of touring…i need that tour money.”

Playasonly.com: Do you prefer recording or performing on stage?

Joey Zuzu:“Definitely performing! You get immediate feedback from your fans…and it’s the right kind of feedback. With the crowd following your every word it’s a blessing. Right now I’m enjoying my small crowds…but when i get that Ne-YO track man…im coming to a town near you!”

Playasonly.com: What can we look forward to in the future from Joey Zuzu?

Joey Zuzu: “Right now…just more fire man…I got Lyrical Fitness 2 – The Weigh In -coming out by the end of the summer…we turning this thing up to whole another level like we do all the time. That’s the new mixtape with some big suprises and alot of bangers man. Pretty soon Zuzu and the TripleCrown team will be on tour taking my music across the nation.”

Joey Zuzu:“Of course the FANS first…you are the reason I’m having this interview right now…we gonna take it another level every time. When I drop, their gonna have to parachute me..lol…s/o to the TRIPLECROWN team…tres up!”
